In Volume two pages 399-400 I quote the following:"In southern New England, however, many Crows remain through mild winters wherever food is plentiful. A piggery with its daily supply of garbage attracts a multitude. A corn-field from which not all...

[Maine-birds] Augusta CBC summary
The species total of 53 for the Augusta Christmas Bird Count was about average. We had a couple new records for high counts and several species had much higher than average (count has been going since 1970). Species such as Eastern Bluebird and Red-bellied Woodpeckers continue to increase in our area in the winter. There were low numbers of a couple duck species likely because of the low amount of open water. For irruptive birds,...

Hearing this report, makes me think I really did correctly ID the hawk being harassed by 5 crows as it flew over 295 just ahead of me (near the Forest Ave exit) towards Deering Oaks. I was certain it was not a Red Tail - but moving along in traffic at 55 mph - it was only a quick look on my part.MarieOn Thu, Dec 27, 2018, 06:15 <crowskd36@gmail.com wrote:I unexpectedly saw this beauty yesterday around 9 am...

The MEYC CBC was held on Monday, December 19th, when 25 of us surveyed the area from Moody in Wells to Fort Foster, and inland. [Maine-birds] Am. Bittern in Scarborough
I was driving down Blackpoint rd in Scarborough towards Pine Point and saw a very large bittern, which can only be an American Bittern, a bird I have strangely never seen before. It was out in the open about 15 feet from a stand of cattail looking things, on the west side of the rd near a culvert. It was in blazing afternoon sunlight, doing the slow mo bittern stalky thing they do.
