Mount Desert Island Birds: Cooper's Hawk

Comments: Sarah Peters from NY, Molly from Washington DC and myself found a Coopers Hawk sitting on the edge of the marsh.

Double-crested Cormorant (Phalacrocorax auritus) 10

Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperii) 1 Pretty sure this was a young female... the local birds were some bummed out that it was around. We watched it in the scope for a good 15 minutes
Semipalmated Sandpiper (Calidris pusilla) 2
Ring-billed Gull (Larus delawarensis) 25
Herring Gull (Larus argentatus) 7
Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) 1
American Crow (Corvus brachyrhynchos) 4
Black-capped Chickadee (Poecile atricapillus) 3
Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas) 2
Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia) 10
Red-winged Blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) 1
American Goldfinch (Spinus tristis) 6 A small flock of birds were gaurding the Coopers Hawk and the Goldfinch were the most vocal of them all.
