Subject: [Maine-birds] Evening Grosbeaks, Goldfinches, and Great Blue Heron

This chilly, cloudy morning we've been watching a small flock (4-5) of Evening Grosbeaks - the first in several years- feeding alongside Goldfinches, Juncos, and Chickadees at our platform feeder.  Male and female Hairy woodpeckers at the suet feeders were joined by a Red-Breasted Nuthatcher.

Suddenly a Great Blue Heron  flew along our drive, landing in the drive near a small stream visible from the house. We assume it is resting in the area of the stream. We walked quietly across the lawn to the landing area hoping for a photo, and looked for an hour but did not observe it taking off again, and did not wish to disturb it by searching further.
