Visitors:14 people visited the hawkwatch.
Weather:The weather was beautiful, with mild temperatures, clear skies, and a light breeze varying between northwest and north northeast. These conditions finally allowed for an enjoyable day, with settled weather and some birds moving through.
Raptor Observations:It was a decent day in terms of both numbers and diversity. There was a nice flight of Sharp-shinned Hawks and Osprey today. Broad-winged Hawks are continuing to trickle through, with six of them counted. A late morning lull occurred when winds picked up a bit and there was some northeasterly gusting. Migration picked up again in the afternoon when winds calmed and shifted to more northwesterly.
Non-raptor Observations:The first Hermit Thrush of the season was heard calling this morning. There was a small flight of Tree Swallows, and a male Belted Kingfisher zipped by close to the summit. 30 bird species were observed today.
Species deemed migrating:
17 European Starlings
17 Tree Swallows
4 passerine sp.
3 American Goldfinches
2 Double-crested Cormorants
1 Belted Kingfisher
1 Common Grackle
Predictions:Tomorrow's weather should be quite similar to today's, with clear skies, light north winds, and temperatures in the high forties to low fifties. It should be a good day, especially since birds have had some time to get moving after the rainy weather.
