This AM I stopped at Collins Pond on the way to work and thought I was quite lucky to find 5 different Lesser Black-backed Gulls in the flock that was roosting on the ice in the pond. Two of the adults were paired up and doing interesting courtship displays that involved head nods, bows and spread wings. Pretty cool, considering that no breeding location has been found for this species yet in North America.... (One hooked up with Herring Gull down at Appledore Island in the late 2000's but I don't know of any LBBG x LBBG breeding closer than Greenland).
-- I stopped back in on the way home this evening and despite the rain, I found even more gulls and now there were nine adult Lessers! This was a new personal high count for me in Maine.
The 3rd cycle Glaucous Gull that I found a week ago is still around and was bathing with some Herring and Ring-billed Gulls in the open water.
I put some pics in the eBird report: http://ebird.org/ebird/me/view/checklist?subID=S28889362
Cheers
