Visitors:31 visitors today, busy for a Wednesday. What made the last 2 hours especially fun was that we had 2 young visitors that really enjoyed the close looks at the many raptors that were buzzing the summit. FOS Horse, FOS kite-flier.
Weather:The day started partly cloudy and we gradually lost cloud cover and ended the day with a cloudless sky. The wind started out of the north but slowly rotated around to the south-southeast. Temperatures were quite comfortable, ranging from 45 to 57 degrees.
Raptor Observations:Today was a weird one! The first 4 hours were extremely slow, barely a bird to be seen in the sky. The 5th and 6th hour were ok, with a handful of birds being seen each hour. The last 2 hours of the day were really fun! Birds were streaming just over the summit, with Ospreys, all 3 falcons, and harriers providing fantastic looks!
Non-raptor Observations:Not much migrating visibly today, besides 7 Tree Swallows and 1 Double-crested Cormorant. A total of 21 species were observed from the summit, including FOS Hermit Thrush calling from somewhere down the hill. A Palm Warbler stopped by briefly, calling.
Predictions:East-southeast winds tomorrow. Will likely be slow but if the winds shift a little southward, we could see a flurry of raptors like we saw at the end of the day today. Mostly cloudy with temps in the high 40's. Definitely bring a coat if you're coming up tomorrow.
