Visitors:This weekend is Feathers Over Freeport! This year doesn't involve any activities at the summit, but feel free to swing by and help us spot some hawks tomorrow! 35 visitors today. 3 horses stopped by to check things out. 3 green balloons were spotted. 1 Garter Snake. Info about Feathers over Freeport: https://www.maine.gov/dacf/parks/discover_history_explore_nature/activities/feathers_over_freeport.shtml
Weather:Today was quite balmy up at the summit. Temps peaked at 68 degrees. Skies were mostly sunny, with some awesome billowing clouds building later in the day. Winds were weak to moderate out of the NW, occasionally gusting up before settling back down.
Raptor Observations:Today was a good day! Birds were high and distant today, more so than usual. Broad-wings made up the bulk of the flight. Diversity in species was a little lacking.
Non-raptor Observations:Non-raptors deemed migratory are as follows: Double-crested Cormorant: 34 Tree Swallow: 21 Common Loon: 1 Barn Swallow: 2 House Finch: 2 A total of 22 species were detected from the summit, including FOS Blue-headed Vireo singing this morning.
Predictions:Tomorrow could be interesting. Overcast skies and patchy rain is not promising. But winds will be out of the south! The only way to find out what will happen is to show up tomorrow and look for hawks. Temps will be in the mid-50's.
