Visitors:17 visitors today. Shoutout to Beluga.
Weather:Today was much cooler up at the summit today. Overcast all day. Temps were fairly constant all day, ranging from 52 to 57. Winds were mild out of the southeast in the am and south in the pm. It rained between 1 and 3.
Raptor Observations:In summary, a very productive morning and a very slow late afternoon. In contrast with yesterday, we had amazing looks at many broad-wings as they glided low over the summit, often appearing to our southwest before streaming north. Broad-wings and Sharp-shins continue to dominate the count. Immature (second-year) broad-wings have yet to make any noticeable appearance. Plenty of immature sharp-shins. The flight died as the weather moved in, and never resumed once the rain moved out.
Non-raptor Observations:A few migrating birds to look at today. Tree Swallow: 2 Double-crested Cormorant: 50 Great-blue Heron: 2 Killdeer: 1 Barn Swallow: 2 Blackbird: 8 American Goldfinch: 8 Yellow-rumped Warbler: 8 Common Loon: 1 European Starling: 3 Purple Finch: 1 Belted Kingfisher:1 35 species were detected from the summit.
Predictions:Strong northwest winds tomorrow :/ Not exactly promising, but you never know. Temps peaking in the mid 50's. It could get pretty chilly up there, bring an extra layer if you decide to join us. Sunny skies should help with thermal development.
