Weather:
Despite light SSW to W to SW during the first half of the day, low marine stratus kept it cool and kept migrants mostly grounded (or away from us). As skies began to clear around 1pm, it became significantly warmer, but that warming also led to the seabreeze penetrating further inland, returning the chill to the air and turning off the little trickle of migrants.

Raptor Observations:
As the skies cleared around 12:00 EST, some very high birds became apparent. Had these bird been riding the area of partly sunny skies that was slowly moving north, or were they passing high above the low clouds all morning? Very few migrants were spotted before or after the initial clearing, however. But while it wasn't a very good day for hawk counting, it was a great day for hawk watching! Local Broad-wings were performing throughout the day, and local Bald Eagles were omnipresent in the afternoon as well.

Non-raptor Observations:
33 birds were seen or heard from the summit today. Those deemed migrating included: 48 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 15 Tree Swallows, 10 American Goldfinches, 3 Barn Swallows, 1 Double-crested Cormorant, 1 SANDHILL CRANE, 1 Purple Finch.

Predictions:
Zane will be lucky (or perhaps not) to get any time in on the mountain tomorrow. An area of low pressure moving up a front is expected to begin producing rain early in the morning, and that may be coupled with fog and drizzle on the southeasterly breeze. But once we get through tomorrow, a period of dry and increasingly warm weather is currently forecast to take hold. Just in time for immature Broad-wings to move. And kites.
