Visitors:Only 6 visitors and not many other parkgoers.
Weather:Temps started to drop during the overnight period bringing in a light coating of snow. The summit was as slippery as I've ever seen it, with a fine layer of clear ice covering the exposed granite. The clear skies and direct sun melted the ice quickly. The temps remained lower and in the low 30's but the strong and persistent W winds made for a much chillier day. Visibility had lots of heat shimmer through optics.
Raptor Observations:Most birds were grounded today. One very determined Sharpie decided to plow ahead. Only a couple of local birds took to the air later in the day.
Non-raptor Observations:With the strong winds it was hard to hear bird song but I don't think I was missing too much as everything appeared to have taken shelter. 2 Killdeer were the only thing moving and they were going south.
Predictions:Tomorrow looks like it will pick up where today left off, with strong W winds, clear skies, and low temps. Clouds may increase during the afternoon as there is some wet weather predicted for the weekend. Hopefully something is flying out ahead of the storm.
