Visitors:Pretty busy in the park today with 38 visitors.
Weather:It was a very nice start to day two, with blue skies, calm air and the sun's strength. Air temps climbed into the mid 40's for a high and winds remained pretty calm all day. Winds started out from the WSW and slowly shifted to SSE to wrap up the afternoon. Clouds began to fill in during the morning and skies became mostly cloudy by late morning. Visibility was good.
Raptor Observations:A very productive day for mid March. The most productive time coincided with the winds moving through the SW and S direction with a high count of 43 for the 1 O'clock hour. There was very good diversity today along with some good looks at Red-tails and 'Shoulders. A highlight was a very close Peregrine which hung around for a little while. Turkey Vultures were on the move but no such luck finding a Black Vulture which had been reported nearby.
Non-raptor Observations:The morning was quite active with passerines, ducks and geese. Pine Siskins were all around the summit today. I don't remember the last time I had seen them at the summit except for maybe a single flyover. 22 species were seen or heard today. Northbound birds included: 284 American Robins 269 Common Grackles 177 Canada Geese 111 Blackbird Spp 40 Red-winged Blackbirds 29 Common Mergansers 22 Pine Siskins 19 Duck Spp 2 Red Crossbills 1 European Starling
Predictions:Tomorrow morning is looking like we might get delayed due to rain. Hopefully it passes quickly and we get some time in. Winds could be an issue, blowing in from the SSW but quite blustery. Temps could reach into the upper 40's. Seems like a bit of a toss-up currently.
