[Maine-birds] Photos of spoonbill and ringed plover

If anyone has good photos of Roseate Spoonbill or Common RInged Plover, ideally from a Maine occurrence, but not necessarily, that we could use for a column, please send our way!

Thanks in advance!

[Maine-birds] Black-billed cuckoo, Gorham

I've not had time to post 'til now, but on Thursday morning the 17th I was delighted to both hear and see a black-billed cuckoo. I confess I did not know the call so "asked Merlin." It was just across the street and flew into a tree by our yard; with binoculars I was able to get a good look before it flew again. It continued to call/sing for quite a while as it moved back further into the woods. Made my day!

[Maine-birds] Fork-tailed Flycatcher photo?

I'm writing a Bangor Daily News column that will include mention of the Fork-tailed Flycatcher being seen at Kennebunk Plains. However, like most visitors, I didn't get a good photo. (I did pick up a couple of ticks, naturally.) Would anyone have a good photo for print, with photo credit, of course. Please reply offline.

Re: [Maine-birds] UNID Song from Perham Stream Birding Trail

Thank you all - yes, most strange indeed.

We stood and listened for many minutes and that's all we heard — the three or four note song.

Cheers

I definitely agree with abbreviated White-throated Sparrow! The tone sounds perfect for it even though the pattern is weird.

Evening All

We heard this one during a hike of the lovely Perham Stream Birding Trail outside Philips, Maine in the Western Mountains on Saturday.

Merlin was not able to identify after many attempts.

Sounds like an abbreviated White-throated Sparrow song but just the three or four notes only.

Anyone able to ID?

Cheers

[Maine-birds] Grosbeak oddities

This morning my parents had a small flock of Evening grosbeaks at their feeders in Swanville.  This evening I had 2 pine grosbeaks calling in the backyard (Montville) , 1 female , did not get a look at the second.  Maybe blown off track with the recent storms?  Oddly the bluebird chicks had just fledged and the parents seemed very agitated about the grosbeak's flighymt/alarm calls.
