Visitors:
10 people visited the Hawkwatch today during a fairly quiet day in the park overall.

Weather:
Not an unpleasant day to be on top of the Brad. The first half of the day had variable light winds, with temperatures topping out at 19C. As the winds shifted to the south in afternoon, the seabreeze cooled things down, but brought in some birds.

Raptor Observations:
It was a relatively slow day for migrants as the season winds down and immature birds wait for optimal conditions, with the peak of today's flight (if you could call it that) in the early afternoon as the winds shifted to the south and increased. An immature Northern Goshawk was sighted in the mid-afternoon with a full crop, dropping behind the ridge of Little Bradbury, suggesting there is still a local bird in the area. As usual, the local Broad-wings were active throughout the day, but local Bald Eagles only became active in the afternoon.

Non-raptor Observations:
The summit was alive with birdsong this morning, including 7 species of warbler and a Scarlet Tanager. 48 species were seen or heard from the summit today. Birds deemed migrating were: 16 Tree Swallows 14 American Pipits (one flock; FOY) 12 Barn Swallows 11 American Goldfinch 4 Bank Swallows 2 Great Blue Herons 1 Chimney Swift 1 Eastern Kingbird 1 Pine Siskin

Predictions:
A weak trough is expected to rotate through, turning the winds to the northwest overnight and producing instability during the day. The forecast suggests scattered showers will remain just to our north again, and with a little extra clearing, could produce some better thermal conditions for migrants to exploit...unless the northwest wind increases just a little too much. In other words, the chance of a decent late season migration tomorrow is maybe 50/50.
