Benton falls below the dam is also a good spot.  Heavy eagle population around there.

Damariscotta Mills and the section of river that runs through Warren village are both good bets. At Damariscotta, you can get extremely close views of fish as they climb the fish ladder up into Damariscotta Lake.
At Warren, fish must pass through a large fish trap, where alewives are bailed and sold as lobster bait. This site (at Mill Park) also provides open sky views of diving ospreys and osprey/eagle sky battles. Fish are generally most abundant of the rising tides.  The traps is fully open during weekends to allow all fish free passage upriver. The bridge at Payson Park, on the west side of RTE 90, can offer some awesome flight shots of birds carrying fish. At Warren, mid-May thru mid-June is likely the high part of the migration period.

Hello Maine Birders,

On a whim I went to check out Eastern River Preserve for the first time. It
is a Kennebec Land Trust property in Pittston protecting an oxbow of the
Eastern River, where Otter Creek joins the river. It was a worthwhile visit
to a pleasant little preserve. My observations can be viewed here:

On my way back I stopped to confirm an unlikely visitor to a farm pond I
noticed on the way in: a "blue goose" (the dark morph of Snow Goose). The
little farm pond is on the north side of Kelley Road, just east of Ferns
Way (private drive). Images of the goose and a pin for the site can be
viewed here: https://ebird.org/checklist/S230569159

Re: [Maine-birds] Impressive Northern Mockingbird repertoire

Very cool!
I'm not very good at birding by ear. So I ran the recording by Merlin's Sound ID.
It heard 8 species starting with a Carolina Wren then American Crow,  Robin, Tufted Titmouse, Eastern Phoebe, Red Bellied Woodpecker, Blue Jay, and White-breasted Nuthatch.
Large sections had no ID and Merlin didn't hear the Bluebird.

The last several nights have had very heavy nighttime migration flights show up on radar which explains the variety of birds at my feeder this weekend.

[Maine-birds] A Few Westbrook FOYs

Mooning All

Heard an FOY Eastern Towhee and saw FOY Ruby-crowned Kinglet in Westbrook this morning.

Lots of woodpecker activity too, Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers in particular. Red-bellied are resident all year round now as are Flickers increasingly.

Nice flyby from a BW Hawk too, struggling to make headway against the strong north wind today.

Cheers

Re: [Maine-birds] Northern Flicker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Basin Cove, Harpswell, 4/19/25

Yellow bellied sapsucker in Saco today. Very active(noisy and chasing each other) pileated woodpeckers as well as a flicker or 2. Lots of White throated sparrows passing thru...feeding and calling continuously and loudly!

I put the feeder out early because, well, optimism, not expecting any sightings until at least next week but ... one very tired female Ruby-Throated Hummingbird made paid a visit, with long intermittent rests on our cherry tree. Very welcome sight.

Of course I have no way of knowing if it is the same bird but I'll just say the chipmunk-eating great blue heron is back hunting on our front yard and skulking around the pond.

Much to my surprise, I spotted one this afternoon hunting off the airport fence at the end the runway at PWM by the traffic lights with the 4 lane intersection of Outer Congress and Jetport Boulevard.
