[Maine-birds] Webber Pond, Bremen

A good mixture of the regulars on the platform feeder this morning – -Bluebirds, male cardinal, Goldfinches , titmice, junco, chickadees, and wb nuthatches,  ultimately, the starlings swept in.  So far the woodpecker regulars were here yesterday, but not today.
And then about 16 evening grosbeaks pushed out the starlings!   I thought the evening grosbeaks had moved on And was delighted to see this group ( males and females).  They have been such a wonderful surprise this year!

[Maine-birds] Purple finches, murder of Crows and an eagle, Nobleboro

Now that we have snow cover again the feed is very busy. The flock of goldfinches was joined by a male/female pair of purple finches. The titmice, chickadees, red breasted nuthatches, a couple juncos and 2 mourning doves insisted the goldfinches share in the bounty.
Down the hill by the road was a murder of crows on a roadkill deer. At least until the bald eagle showed up for its turn. I took a look at the carcass this afternoon and found it was headless and well gutted out. I suspect a canine of some sort has been involved.

[Maine-birds] Iceland Gulls

There were two first winter Iceland Gulls on the ice below the Great Falls this morning. They were easily visible from the parking lot by the Hilton Hotel in Auburn. They were with about 120 other gulls - Herring and Ring billed.
