[Maine-birds] Re: Bird walks near Augusta/Waterville week of July 7-13.

Hello Chris,
As the correspondent for the Augusta Birding Club I encourage you to check out good local birding spots on our website here.
You'll be quite close to the Messalonskee Lake site and none of the others is far away.
I'm sorry that we don't have any organized trips planned while you are here.
eBird will be a great resource of course and one of our members created a Kennebec County checklist that will give you an idea of seasons and regularity of occurrence.

You may also hear directly from individuals who are birding as a result of your posting here.
Hope you have a great time!
Cathie Murray

Hello from California!

I'll be staying with friends in North Belgrade, between Waterville and Augusta, the week of July 7-13, and am looking forward to seeing some east coast birds. Before I strike out on my own, I was wondering if anyone here knows of any scheduled bird walks or field trips anywhere near there during that week. Thanks!

[Maine-birds] Bees in my nest box?

Chickadees built a nest in one of my nesting boxes, but I've been watching bumble bees going in and out of the box for several weeks. I finally opened the box to find a completed nest and the sound of an angry bee (s). No evidence of eggs or chicks.

Is this a common occurrence?

Still on the learning curve,
Dave😀

[Maine-birds] Rose breasted grosbeaks

So I have been putting out fruity suet cakes and now have a lot of different birds coming. Including black and white warbler a few times
Today an adult male rose breasted grosbeaks is very busy stuffing suet in the mouth of a baby up on a limb.
I suspected babies were there, as momma grosbeak, out at back feeder was very noisy about something. So dad is in front yard mom is in back yard. The young are out of the best.
Question, have I created a whole family of dependents?
