[Maine-birds] bonaparte's gull on Messalonskee

I was out sailing this morning and was surprised to see a Bonaparte's gull on the water. We had just been way Downeast in Perry where we saw loads and wondered if it followed us home. It was in the middle of the lake off shore from the Sidney boat landing.

[Maine-birds] An egregious mistake, and a sincere apology to all

Dear Readers/Birders,

The recent post of an oystercatcher with color bands that I reported as taken at Egg Rock in Washington County, Maine was actually photo'd in Iceland in August of 2021. I did not discover this egregious discrepancy until about an hour ago. Somehow the Iceland photo got lumped in with my other oystercatcher photos from July 10 of this year. I honestly do not know how that occurred because I keep my photo files in chronological order on my computer. The offending photo appears on July 10 as well as in August of last summer. When it was reported to me that the ID was a Eurasian OY, and knowing I had been to Iceland last summer, I clicked on the info icon on the photo and discovered the horror of my error.

I sincerely and deeply apologize to everyone.

[Maine-birds] Eurasian Oystercatcher!

An oystercatcher initially ID as an American Oystercatcher which was photo'd on Egg Rock in Washington County (2.5 miles north of Petit Manan Island) has been correctly ID as a Eurasian Oystercatcher. The bird has a color banding configuration that indicates it was banded in Iceland as reported to me by Shiloh Schulte of Manomet. We are hoping to receive more specific information in the near future. The bird was photo's while on a puffin cruise to Petit Manan Island aboard the Tricia Clark whose captain is Stephen Brown. This particular boat is the original puffin cruise boat operated by Barna Norton on those initial trips to Machias Seal Island back in the day. Thanks to all who responded to my initial post and photo. Special thanks to Charles Duncan for forwarding that post to Shiloh.
