The little sulfurous spring area that drains into Englishman's Bay at Cow Point is full of water due to the recent rains and high tide. Yesterday (June 5) there were:
Green-winged Teal - a pair
Black Ducks - a pair
Also, a Muskrat has been active there this week.
And, on Johnson Cove Road where it is nearest to the Cow Point turn-off, a Ruby-crowned Kinglet was singing. Such a loud voice for such a little bird.
When it was sunny, on Monday, we had Blackburnian Warblers and Redstarts on the Cow Point Road, and Yellow-rumped, Magnolia, Black-throated Green, and Parula warblers in the yard. Also Swainson's Thrush, Winter Wren, Amer. Crow, and Raven.
Red-breasted Nuthatch, Purple Finches, Dk-Eyed Juncos, and Black-capped Chickadees at the feeder. A female Purple Finch was on the branch of a dead spruce, about a foot away from a Junco on another branch of the same tree. Then the Finch hopped onto a branch about 6-8" from the Junco and for a few moments they faced beak-to-beak before springing at each other and tumbling in the air as they attacked each other (did I already report this? Sorry if I am repeating.)
I'll wait to report on the sea and shore birds until I talk with Wally, but the Black-bellied Plovers were still there and two Common Loons, exchanging their melodious tootles, and a D.C.Cormorant.
Carol, at Roque Bluffs this week
