[Maine-birds] Pileated and pussycat

My sister has a pileated woodpecker pair with at least one chick in a high tree hole right next to her house in Sullivan. They have seemed unpeturbed by people and dogs near the nest. However, yesterday my sister let her 4 month old kitten out for his first supervised romp, and the mood changed. When they spotted him near the tree, they began screaming and dive bombing him. My sister quickly put him back inside. Having been pecked by a pileated once, I am pretty sure a well-placed blow with that ice- pick could do some serious damage to a kitten's head, hard though it be. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this? I would like to add this to the many arguments I have against the kitten going out at all.
