Notables today at Taylor Road were several Common Nighthawks flying over the second bait pond and a Northern Waterthrush that was peering from a raspberry bush along the trail, frozen and reluctant but still very much out in the open for that species.
Thursday at Saxl Park in Bangor I saw a Prairie Warbler perched overhead on a power line and heard 2 Black-billed Cuckoos on separate ends of the park. Boblinks, Savannah Sparrows and Goldfinches are all in breeding mode there and the fields and vegetation are so overgrown that a walk there is interesting... like stepping back 100 years to what Bangor was previously like. Recommended to anyone without hay fever issues.
I've also run into Nighthawks in 2 other areas recently where, unlike Taylor Road, I didn't expect them. One was heard flying very high up over Fountain Street in Bangor a couple weeks ago, and another was seen flying low in broad daylight (about 5:30 pm) in Ellsworth near Dunkin' Donut on June 30th.
