Re: [Maine-birds] Roque Bluffs State Park Bufflehead

What is the big deal about not getting a high-quality photo of a bufflehead in summer?  It would be different if it were a difficult bird to identify but the pond where  it is located is fairly small and easily viewed.  I have seen summering buffleheads in the past off of Roque Island and off Davis Beach on the east side of lower Machias Bay.

To the birders who have lamented the lack of better photos, I also wish for better, but this is the best I have of this bird. Never-the-less, it is a Bufflehead. We had a 'scope on it as well as three birders with bird-glasses. All of us know the difference between this and other superficially similar birds. Next time I am up at Roque Bluffs I will return to the pond and hope to take a better photo, but given my skills and the tiny pocket-size Canon camera, there is no guarantee. Maybe one of the other birders in the Machias area will go take a look and a better photo.
