York County

Two STILT SANDPIPERS were reported from Parson's Beach in Kennebunk on the morning of the 9th.

A COMMON GALLINULE was found on the 9th at the Sanford Sewerage District, which is at the end of Gavel Road, off Route 4 in Sanford. Visitation is limited to 6 a.m.-4:30 p.m. M-F and 7-8:30 a.m. only on the weekend.

A ROYAL TERN was reported from Timber Point in Biddeford on the 11th.

Greater Portland

A high count of five AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were seen from Pine Point in Scarborough on the 5th.

On the morning of the 8th, Maine's second LITTLE EGRET was found feeding with other herons in the pannes on the east side of the Eastern Trail through the Scarborough Marsh. This bird has not been relocated since this initial sighting.

Other highlights around the Scarborough Marsh lately include: TRICOLORED HERONS, a presumed TRICOLORED HERON x SNOWY EGRET hybrid, up to 17 STILT SANDPIPERS and a BLACK TERN.

Kennebec River Valley (Augusta-Waterville)

A group of five GREAT EGRETS were seen just below the Shawmut Dam in Fairfield on the 8th.

Midcoast

On the 6th, a SOUTH POLAR SKUA was seen in waters southeast of Monhegan Island.

Unusual birds for Monhegan Island this week include a single GREAT EGRET, ROCK PIGEON, and WHITE-EYED VIREO.

Central Maine

A GREAT EGRET was spotted at Essex Woods in Bangor, also less common here were seven BLUE-WINGED TEAL on the 8th.

Another GREAT EGRET has been seen on private property in Orrington since the 5th and was joined by a second on the 8th.

Two BLACK TERNS were hawking insects over Unity Pond on the 11th. Also here was the WHITE-WINGED SCOTER that has been present all summer.

Northern Maine

Up to 12 species of shorebirds have been present at Collins Pond in Caribou lately, including: PECTORAL SANDPIPER and WILSON'S SNIPE.
