Re: [Maine-birds] Unity Pond Black Terns

Speaking of hawking insects; we had Bonaparte's Gulls, Ring-billed Gulls, Common Terns, and Herring Gulls doing the same thing over our house today. No nighthawks though, unfortunately.
The BOGU's are agile and seem to be the most successful, but the RBGU's aren't bad at it.

Today in the drizzle there were two basic plumage Black Terns hawking insects on the Unity Pond.  Possibly dispersed from Carlton Bog, but perhaps arrived from further afield.  The WW Scoter that has been at the pond all summer remains.

Nearby in Thorndike a large group of swallow (Barn, Bank, Tree) included 12 swifts and a nighthawk.  Lots of warblers and flycatchers also about all week.

Good birding,
