Hi Birders,

This is an update to all of you in the Maine Birding Community that on Saturday 10 November I captured, by modeling the careful method used by bander Anthony Hill, and transported the Rufous Hummingbird to rehab.  This amazing bird had endured  Hurricane Sandy and a no name nor'easter but was losing ground. I did not realize the extend of her loss until I was informed by the folks at Avian Haven that she weighted 2.69 at check-in as well as having a quite prominent keel. This represents over a 20% loss in weight in just eight days.  At banding on Nov 2,  Anthony Hill recorded Weight 3.6g; Fat =1;Wig=43.2;Tail= 26.0; Culm=1.7.7;Gorget Feather=2 central; Grooves 80%; Molt=0.  The goal of rehab is weight gain in preparation for release. Thanks, Pat
