[Maine-birds] Thick-billed Murre, Dyer Pt

Hello all,

The seas were still a little choppy, but much gentler than the past few days! Hoping to find some alcids still lingering near shore (and actually having a chance to see them, now that the waves were somewhat reduced), I headed up to Dyer point to do a little seawatching. At first I was unimpressed by the sparsity of birds, but some searching around finally turned up a THICK-BILLED MURRE bobbing in the surf and foam about 30 yds off shore, looking south from the Lobster Shack (incidentally, it was in the same spot in the ocean I first spotted the Dovekie in January). I tried taking some pictures, but once again my camera battery died after the first (poor) shot. Only 1 Harlequin Duck spotted today, and a single Black Guillemot in breeding plumage.

Other notable birds included my FOY Red-winged Blackbirds, the continuing Rough-legged Hawk (over Richmond Island) and 2 Brant at Kettle Cove State Park.

Good Birding
