Re: [Maine-birds] Jacksonville

The only time I birded in the Jacksonville area the speciality was a Snowy Owl. This was in winter 2014, the SNOW irruption year. It was in the dunes at Little Talbot State Park, about a half hour from Jacksonville on the coast. There was also a Reddish Egret on the beach, a little less unexpected but a good bird for the area, and quite a contrast in range overlap!

In addition to Little Talbot State Park, we birded Helen Cooper Floyd Park, for the more traditional FL assortment of waders, and Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park, where there were Wood Storks. We went to the University of North Florida to find our state Canada Geese. (!) In Nassau County, just north of Jacksonville, we saw another rarity, a Harlequin Duck, at Ft. Clinch State Park.
