Visitors:
22 people stopped by to inquire about the project today. With the thawing and freezing, the Summit trail is now worse than before. An alternate route is advised if you don't have the appropriate footwear.
Weather:
It was a brisk and breezy start today, with periods of sun and shade from the occasional passing clouds. Winds started off on the gusty side in the early part of the day but calmed down by the afternoon, becoming mostly calm. Temps remained just above the freezing mark for the warmer second half of the day. Visibility was clear with a slight haze and some heat distortion.
Raptor Observations:
Not quite as strong a day as yesterday, but for day three anything above double digits seems like a bonus. The majority of movement happened early, in the first two hours, becoming more of a trickle as the hours ticked by. Local Eagles were active today, making deciphering between migrants and residents a challenge. Local Red-tail pairs were also out and about, actively foraging in there respective territories.
Non-raptor Observations:
Very little to speak of in terms of non raptor migrants. A couple of Red-winged Blackbirds were seen heading south along with a group of Robins. The surrounding woods remained quiet with the exception of a few Chickadees.
Predictions:
Tomorrow looks similar to today but with slightly warmer temps and a lighter wind, which should still be out of the WNW. Looks like a promising start to the week.
