by last Sunday (3/31) the pond had opened enough on the east side opposite my house to allow the loons in--
-- By4/2 they were swimming off the point of the big island and I heard them for the first time at night and during the day on 4/3.
The winds on Thursday 4/4 took out all the ice. By the afternoon, there was a ring-necked pair of ducks swimming off my shore-line (and the loon was there two).
On Friday, four woodducks (two pairs) were in my yard (as well as mallards, of course) and a bufflehead pair was off shore.
On Saturday, I heard the phoebes and the woodcock for the first time.
Today, several common golden eye ducks were swimming in the cove.
