Visitors:
23 people visited the hawk watch today.
Weather:
Another case of actual and predicted conditions not lining up. Winds did just about whatever they wanted today. Quite a bit of sunshine in the morning, clouds increasing thereafter. Moderate winds in the morning out of the north, lightening up a little but becoming more variable mid-day, before shifting east, then southeast and picking up speed through the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Slow day on the mountain, with migration activity as variable as the wind. There was, however, a decent spread of species diversity. Most birds in the early parts of the day were observed at a distance from the summit, while the afternoon offered quite a few closer views.
Non-raptor Observations:
37 species were observed from the summit. Individuals deemed migrating included: 3 Yellow-rumped Warblers 4 Chimney Swifts 5 Barn Swallows 24 Tree Swallows 21 Double-crested Cormorant
Predictions:
Sunshine in the morning with increasing clouds through the afternoon. Winds are expected to be moderate out of the west shifting southwest through the afternoon. Forecasts predict precipitation the hold of until the end of the day with chances increasing through the evening. If winds behave we may see some migration activity tomorrow.
