[Maine-birds] Lark Sparrow - Southport

I just received the following text from Tina Green.

There is a Lark Sparrow in Southport on the left side of the Southport Library feeding with the Sparrows and juncos in front of the bike rack.

[Maine-birds] York County Migration

I'm watching an incredible number of passerine migrants coming over Parsons Beach right now. Mostly Yellow-rump and Blackpolls. Laudholm should be full of birds today.

[Maine-birds] Bailey Island migrants

There were many birds forced down to Land End with the strong north winds today.  Most notable was a female Hooded Warbler just north of Lands End near the large gravel parking lot.  There were also large numbers of yellow-rumps and white-throats, a chat and a good variety of lingering songbirds.

Good birding,
tom

[Maine-birds] Bluebirds!! Migrating. Sanford/New Dam Rd.

Very surprised and happy to look out the window at my home (mostly in the woods) just after 5 pm, to see an Eastern Bluebird splashing around in my front yard makeshift bird bath! Another was poking into the soil of a hanging plant nearby.

Migrating, no doubt, as there is no bluebird habitat or food around. I was so lucky to see them, but not fortunate enough to get a photo because of window blinds. As soon as I moved the curtain they flew, not to be refound from my porch. What a treat on a beautiful Fall day!

It may be the only bluebird I've seen all year, since I can't walk very well; surely the first one in my yard in 12 years here. I had to look twice, as bluejays are often present.

[Maine-birds] Pushaw Scoters

It’s that time of year. Two female surf scoters are floating just beyond my dock at the north end of Pushaw Lake in Hudson – the 150th species on my yard list.

[Maine-birds] Big Sit! at Gilsland Farm on Oct 13!

Hi folks-

Maine Audubon will be hosting our annual Big Sit bird count here at Gilsland Farm in Falmouth on Saturday Oct. 13. It's free, fun, and lasts all day.

For those who haven't participated before, the Big Sit is a worldwide bird count taking place one October weekend where all birds must be spotted from within a 17-foot circle. It's a relaxing way to see a ton of birds.

But we need your help in counting! Please stop by the North Meadow any time on the 13th and help us find some birds. We'll be there by at least 6am.

I really hope to see you there, and please reach out if you have questions. Learn some more here: https://www.maineaudubon.org/news/the-big-sit-the-most-amount-of-birds-with-the-least-amount-of-effort/

Best,
Nick
