My observations of note over the past seven days were as follows:

1 continuing EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE

1 singing TENNESSEE WARBLER

3 Black Scoters

1 continuing Merlin

1 Atlantic Puffin, close to shore off Black Head (multiples on Hardy Boat ferry to and from, which is more regular than from the island in summer).

- Cap'n Fish Whale Watch, Boothbay Harbor, 7/5 (with Pat Moynahan):

314 Wilson's Storm-Petrels

32 Northern Gannets

9 Great Shearwater (FOY)

3 Sooty Shearwater (FOY)

1 Least Tern (oddly feeding 15+ miles off Boothbay Harbor)

1 subadult light morph PARASITIC JAEGER (FOY)

[Maine-birds] Scarborough Marsh Little Egret 7/5/19

Currently roosting behind Pelreco Building with a Snowy Egret.

[Maine-birds] Little Gull- Laudholm Beach, Wells

Maine Birders,

This morning there was an immature Little Gull feeding along the surf line in a flock of 65 Bonaparte's Gulls on Laudholm Beach (accessed via Barrier Beach Trail at Laudholm Farm) in Wells.

[Maine-birds] Sightings in SW Maine this week

Near the summit of the North Peak at Burnt Meadow Mountain in Brownfield today were at least 4 male EASTERN TOWHEES singing in the 90 degree shade. Two were bold enough to sit still for the camera, either just tame or in territorial defense mode. Looks to be an active breeding spot for the species, and definitely is a nice hiking spot. Around 9 pm on the 3rd an EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL was heard again, continuing in the area of Hancock Ave., off Main St. in Hiram Village.

At Mountain Division Trail (miles 47-48.5) in Fryeburg on Sun. the 30th things were quite birdy in the late afternoon immediately following the heavy rain that had been going on all day. Among the 33 species seen were 2 COMMON NIGHTHAWK, 9 warbler species incl. 3 continuing singing CANADA WARBLERS, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, INDIGO BUNTING and others. At Ingalls Pond near the Baldwin/Hiram line on Rt. 113 on Sat. 6/29 were 4 Vireo species including 1 YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, along with 2 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS and others. List: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S57798024

The area where Oxford, Cumberland and York counties converge seems to be under-birded. River Road in Hiram runs along both the back side of the Saco River and numerous large ponds, with miles of clear views of the river and adjacent ponds and wetlands, that go on for miles, through mostly unbroken wilderness with very few houses. Literally miles of wetland frontage that comes right up to the road, with unobstructed views and plenty of roadside parking. I haven't birded it yet but it looks like a great potential spot.

I take it the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher is not around anymore? Not a surprise if it isn't.

Hey Cathie, this is great! Thanks so much! Gonna try to hit a lot of the spots from your website. Would love to find a Black-billed Cuckoo, and I've heard there might be a Northern Goshawk somewhere in my neighborhood. Can't wait to get there!
