[Maine-birds] Caspian Tern, Lake Messalonskee, 6/23

Hi all,
While enjoying Black Terns at Lake Messalonskee, Rte 26, Belgrade, my client and I were pleasantly surprised to find a CASPIAN TERN. It's currently feeding with the Black Terns in the boat channel off of the public boat launch off of Rte 26.

[Maine-birds] Bald eagle flight series

Newbury Neck Road in Surry was ablaze with wildflowers. Not many birds, but one, an American bald eagle caught my eye and lens.

Cheers,

[Maine-birds] ANCIENT MURRELET in Shelburne Vermont! (April report)

Brandon Frank and Emily Hall were out fishing on Shelburne Pond on April
17, 2014 when an "odd duck" swam by them along the shoreline.
Thankfully, they had enough curiosity to take a video of it with their
cell phone. After a couple of months, the video has finally surfaced
and it turns out the "duck" is a breeding plumage ANCIENT MURRELET!
Thanks to Len Medlock for sending the video along to me.

And thanks to Rob Muessel and Brandon Frank for allowing me to share
this remarkable video with other birders in the region. Just goes to
show.....you just never know!

[Maine-birds] Phee-beba-deebee Chicks

Summer is not right until the Phoebe's build their nest under some convenient camp overhang. Usually it's under the porch. This year it's on a support for a small roof protecting the back door.

Four eggs, became four chicks. The parents nicely coordinated a steady stream of feeding visits with "screen door slams" of frequent arrivals and departures. Grandaughters delight in being lifted to nest height to see and count the fast growing chicks, which instructions not to touch the poop laden roof support.

The overstuffed chicks are now overflowing the nest, and we can imagine them saying to each other, classic juvenile complaints , " Stoppit..stop shoving", or "Mama, she touched me"  or "Mama, he BREATHED on me".  Soon they will fledge and be seen teetering on small branches along the waterfront, begging incessantly for their next bite from tireless parents.

Another summer at camp.

[Maine-birds] Belgrade

‎A lovely day to paddle with Glenn Hodgkins and Laurie Moody on Messalonskee Lake.  Our goal was closeups of Black Terns and Sandhill Crane.

Three Sandhills flew right over us and numerous Black Terns gave us great views.   In addition, 13 species of warbler were noted and three sparrows. Loons had your as did Wood Ducks. Barn Swallows are again nesting on the bridge.
