I was very excited to see they've implemented these options, or will be implementing them in the near future. Ebird never read my mind in all the years I've been using it. I've long thought how much more engaging
lists would be if there were images of the site to give the uninitiated an inkling of what to expect or anticipate with an unknown place. And in some cases give the lister a chance to reminisce on places they may never
have the opportunity to visit again. And as Sean mentioned there are frequently other species equally engaging during one's encounters. I tend to treat my submissions as a journal of my travels, if only by implication because
the site is after all dedicated to avifauna, but the other elements only enrich the experience for the original lister and I would say for others curious about particular sites.

Today after getting back from a local spot I was looking at my photos to
see if any were worth posting on my checklist. Of the two that I thought
were okay, the better one was a landscape pic that I accidentally took
while trying to photograph a Field Sparrow as my leashed dog was pulling my

To my great surprise, when I went to post my checklist it seems that eBird
had anticipated my idea with new options for habitat photos, non-avian
animal photos and sounds (going to need to go through some old snake &
insect pics from various outings) and general "experience" photos which I'm
sure people will come up with some creative submissions for.
My one suggestion for eBird now is that it SHOULD allow photos for a list
species to be moved via a right-left slider to position them as desired,
rather than having to take the time to reupload everything when you look
and think that your last photo was actually better than the first and you
need to rearrange everything...sometimes again and again.
Great to find these new options on eBird.

These options are, I believe, still in beta testing and not available yet
to those who aren't paying supporters of eBird. Doug Hitchcox, our group

you've got the time and the interest, you can volunteer to adopt one or
more colonies to monitor. I've been a monitor ever since 2009, when Maine
