Visitors:
4 people visited the hawk watch today
Weather:
The day began with moderate winds from the west, quickly turning northwest and becoming stronger as the day progressed. Strong northwest winds brought heavy snow squalls in the early afternoon. The count was shut down at 1330 EST due to heavy snow and lack of visibility.
Raptor Observations:
Despite relatively strong winds there were some birds moving during the morning hours. Once wind and snow picked up, migration activity ceased.
Non-raptor Observations:
A large number of American Robins were observed reverse migrating south before the storm. 27 species were observed from the summit. Those deemed migrant included: 2 Sandhill Cranes 7 Tree Swallows 12 Canada Geese 2 Common Mergansers 206 American Robins
Predictions:
Moderate northwest winds tomorrow with potentially strong gusts through the afternoon. If winds aren't too strong, we may see birds moving.
