Visitors:
16 people visited the hawk watch today.
Weather:
It was lovely day on the mountain. Moderate winds out of the northwest through most the day carried some intermittent heavy gusts. Winds stayed pretty consistent out of the northwest lightening up a bit in the later afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
While migration activity was on the lighter side, winds were light enough that a number of species were observed migrating in the early part of the count duration. It seemed to me that birds were moving ahead of a brief snow shower that arrived around 1100 EST. The snow was relatively light and only lasted about 40 minutes, but migration activity was very limited afterward.
Non-raptor Observations:
27 species were observed from the summit. Non-raptor individuals deemed migrating included: 7 Canada Geese 3 Red-winged Blackbirds
Predictions:
Another nice day before precipitation arrives late Sunday/early morning Monday. Winds are expected to be light, starting out of the southwest and shifting south by the afternoon. Light southwest winds are likely to bring some migration activity through the area. Here's hoping!
