My husband and I will be checking out Georgetown, Reid state park, and will be exploring other areas, possibly Hermit Island (is there access there in the winter?). Communication on this thread would be great if it is spotted. I second Rob's thanks to all. It was an exciting end/ or maybe start/ to a new year. Thanks, too, to the gentleman who offered me his telescope just as the bird spread its wings to fly. What a view! Truly, a lifetime experience. On Dec 31, 2021, at 4:12 PM, rob speirs <rspeirs1@gmail.com> wrote:It was a "Steller" Day....thanks for keeping everyone informed, Doug, and thanks, as well, to Linda Tharp and Nick Lund for igniting...

We were just notified all of Moore's Turnpike is private property and no birders are allowed down that road. The bird reportedly just moved towards Crow Island (9:45AM) so going to the Five Islands wharf is the best bet for now. Right before you get to the wharf, just after the big public parking lot, take a left on schoolhouse Road. After less than half a mile take a right on North End Rd. After a few hundred yards, take a right on moores turnpike Road. Follow that to the end, where the co-op is, and everyone is here. It's an icy, narrow, snowy private road.On Fri, Dec 31, 2021 at 8:18 AM Matthew Gilbert <matthewgfrommaine@gmail.com> wrote:WEVE...

[Maine-birds] Steller’s Sea-Eagle: negative as of 7:40
Hi all,
Several dozen of us are here at Five Islands, Georgetown. Nothing yet, but fog is just starting to lift.
Doug Hitchcox, who began this morning's vigil here, and I were just chatting about where to post updates, and for now, we're going to use the Listserve. At least until we have more positive news.
There are more than enough eyes here, so if you're on your way, broadening the search might be helpful.
Stay tuned,
Derek

[Maine-birds] Five Islands Parking Lot
Hi all,
If - and I think this is a big if - that the bird is relocated in the harbor at Five Islands, Georgetown, please keep in mind that this is a small working pier and parking is fairly limited at the dock. While the restaurant is not open at this time of year, it's still an active lobster fishing wharf.
There is, however, a small public parking lot a very short distance away. Please consider using this, and carpooling...

[Maine-birds] Stellar's Sea Eagle Chase
Good Evening,As the Maine Birding community knows by now, the Steller's Sea Eagle that has appeared in Texas, Alaska, Nova Scotia and Massachusetts was photographed this afternoon near the Five Islands Lobster Pound in Georgetown. It had flown by the time birders began to arrive around 3:30.The bird appears to be move north along the coast (but it of course may back track) and we're pretty certain we won't be the only...
