[Maine-birds] Re: Bald Blue Jays- Liberty

Collin here in Camden. We have two blue jays and once cardinal at our feeder with the same molding state. Noticed it about 10 days ago. I was worried about disease but found a couple of resources that said it was common especially in August.  One of the blue jays has shown some growth over the last week, more than the other anyway. The cardinal (if it's indeed the same bird we keep seeing) is still very bald. It's also how i learned that cardinals have black skin.

I have just seen (in Liberty) the second Blue Jay that is missing nearly every feather on its head and neck, and my usual flock of 4 or 5 that show up religiously for peanuts have not been around. I searched and found a post from 2012 about Blue Jays and some Blackbirds that occasionally undergo a very severe molt, and that it's not a big deal. But they sure look pathetic! Anyone else seeing this around this year?
