     In my newly-arrived Birds of Maine book, the section on Turkey Vultures gives detailed citations about the increase in wintering birds, with the first one reported in 1981.

     It was also interesting to read that there is a pattern showing that the Turkey Vultures arriving in spring migration are arriving earlier each year.  For example the first spring migrants would arrive in April-May before 1987, with the dates becoming earlier as the years went on.  By 2012 there were 10 reports prior to February 15, including one reported in Bath on February 5, 2012.

     Thank you, Tom, for letting us all know about the availability of Birds of Maine through the Princeton sale.  It's a great book --- all seven pounds of it!
