[Maine-birds] Re: Indigo Bunting

I too saw an Indigo Bunting at my feeder in North Whitefield about 12:15 PM today. Just passing through, I think. Indeed a treat!

[Maine-birds] South Point Sanctuary (Biddeford Pool) Remains Active

South Point Sanctuary continues to be very active. Today diversity was down but numbers up: countless yellow, common yellowthroat, redstart, magnolia. Also black-throated blue. Other visitors over the past week have been blackburnian, bay-breasted, chestnut-sided, blackpoll, black-throated green, northern parula, black & white. White-eyed vireo seen & heard over the past week not present today. Other species today were eastern towhee, drake wood ducks (a dozen reported by another observer), baltimore oriole, cedar waxwing (large flock), numerous flycatchers, eastern peewee, red-eyed vireo (seemingly dozens). Beach today near the sanctuary saw numerous black-bellied plovers, semi-palmated, and several ruddy turnstone. Entrance is rather hidden, on 7th St. on right just beyond the first house after the intersection of 7th, 4th, and 1st.

Can you please post directions to this location? I would love to see/hear the Mourning Warbler, as well as a Sandhill C

Anyway, this bird felt very overdue.

I scattered when it began to rain harder and steadier. The temp fell rom 58F to 49F while I was there.

[Maine-birds] BREWER'S SPARROW continues, Monhegan, 5/27

Hi all,
Gabriel Willow, leading a NYC Audubon group, reports the BREWER'S SPARROW is still present on Monhegan Island.

He saw it this afternoon on the lawn of the church, with a small flock of Savannah Sparrows. Other new arrivals on the island included a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW.

[Maine-birds] Great day at Fuller Farm - need help with an ID

Had a great morning out at Fuller Farm in Scarborough. Highlights included a m/f SCARLET TANAGER pair, BLACK-THROATED BLUE warbler down below the canopy singing, and a very vocal WOOD THRUSH and HOUSE WREN. My full list can be found here:

Had one mystery bird, looks to be a Vireo of some sort. Any help with and ID would be wonderful - wasnt singing at all, so all I have to go on are these (rather bad) images.

The closest thing I have found was a Bell's Vireo, but I am very hesitant to report as such since it would mean he was pretty lost. Positive double white wing bar, one much more prominent than the other. White eye ring, dark eye. Light yellow underneath (this is tougher to tell in the images).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

[Maine-birds] 120 Species in Brunswick

It was a good day birding in Brunswick on Sunday for my annual Big Day, with 120 species recorded, and funds raised for eBird. Highlights included a singing Lincoln's Sparrow, two singing Wood thrushes (one of which has been present at least 10 days and presumably nesting at Brunswick Landing, the former BNAS), a late Greater Scaup off Simpson Point, and a late Common Goldeneye off Wharton Point. One unusual sight was at least 19 Fish crows flying around in circles and generally raising a ruckus at the Brunswick Town Mall late in the afternoon. Earlier in the day, there were no Fish crows in evidence anywhere downtown, so possibly these birds were wanderers or late migrants.

The big shorebird arrival was missed at Wharton Point on Sunday, but Monday morning saw the appearance of a large flock of Short-billed Dowitchers.
