This afternoon, an adult Black-headed Gull in breeding plumage made a brief appearance at Wharton Point in Brunswick. The bird was first observed perched on the ice several hundred feet offshore. Shortly, it took off flying southeast along Merepoint Neck, gaining altitude and disappearing over the Neck, most likely heading for Middle Bay. Folks in the Midcoast and further downeast might keep an eye out for the bird.
