[Maine-birds] Golden Eagle - Bath

While Bud Heuer and I were shooting the breeze on Washington Av in Bath this early afternoon (12:51PM) , something scattered the thousand or so gulls in the river. Looking up we saw a Golden Eagle, soaring very high, crossing the river, heading in the general direction of the landfill. Noticed most was a large dark eagle, against a very bright sky: "finger tips" splayed; smallish head, longish, thinnish tail, and a white spot on each underwing situated at about the inner primary bases. I wasn't ready and failed to get a photo - lens cap on, switch off. But we both had good 'noc looks.

I spent 45 minutes at the landfill listening to the gulls there all stirred up, and many crows in the trees similarly stirred up. But only saw a few Bald Eagles…soaring. On the way out I told the woman at the gate to watch out for a Golden Eagle that might be around and she responded that "yes, there has been one around lately". Take that for what its worth.
