[Maine-birds] Re: Off topic : Peepers?

I was over in Yarmouth at the North Road Playground with my son until just after dark on Tuesday. As we were preparing to leave, a noise appeared from the small marsh across the street. It sounded like it might have been a frog of some sort, as it sounded a bit like a cross between a "raspberry" and a bad duck call. It was a short, even toned, and rather loud sound. I know I have heard it before. I was not sure if it was a bird or frog. It was definitely not a peeper. I tried to find recordings of frogs from Maine to compare and the nearest I could find was a Cope's Gray Tree Frog, but was shorter and sharper. I was wondering if it might have been a bird of some sort as the ground around there was still half covered with snow so I thought it might be early for a frog. I looked up some of the usual suspects and did not find any sounds that matched.
