Among several cool sights this morning between Bath and Brunswick, perhaps the coolest was my FOY Osprey banging away at an immature Bald Eagle with an antenna sticking out of its back. (Photos). This Osprey occupies the nest in the middle of the baseball field, if you know the place.

So, here is the word of the day. Oology.....the branch of ornithology that

\oh-OL-uh-jee\
noun
1. the branch of ornithology that studies birds' eggs. Quotes Brits, as
Julian Rubinstein wrote in the magazine last year, are so crazy about
*oology*—the study of eggs—that they are sometimes driven cross the law in
their pursuits, hoping to escape the notice of special oological
investigators.
-- Alexandra Schwartz, Consider the Egg, The New Yorker, April 23, 2014
Origin *Oology* is a combination of the Latin combining form *oo-*, from
the Greek term *ōión* meaning "egg," and the combining form *-logy* used in
the names of sciences or bodies of knowledge. Dictionary.com

When I entered the Palm Warbler in e-bird, I realized I had the name of the
location wrong. I was at Sandy Point on Cousin's Island. The bird was near
the entrance to the 1/4 mile trail that goes away from the point.
I only had my cell phone, so the picture is not very good.

Stella, Scott and all,

I was a member of a banding project focusing on Red-winged Blackbirds in New York from 2012-2014. Scott forwarded me a photo last evening of the bird in question and I believe it to be one of our birds. I forwarded the photo to one of our project managers and he also believes this is one of our birds. That said, we won't have any additional details until at least Monday. Stay tuned.

Hi all,Following up on Dan Nickerson's reports from yesterday, my Saturday Morning Birdwalk group and I dodged the raindrops by working the Androscoggin River from the Durham River Park upstream to Great Falls.  About 80% of our waterfowl were along Rte 136 in Durham, where the high-tension wires cross the river.  The following were some of our totals for the morning, of ducks and a few other migrants of note:262 Canada Geese220 Mallards178 WOOD DUCKS107 Ring-necked Ducks88 American Black Ducks62 Tree Swallows39 Common Goldeneyes20 Green-winged Teal10 Common Mergansers10 Hooded Mergansers4 Eastern Phoebes 2 Northern Pintail1 Belted Kingfisher.

Lots of robins. Spring is happening. Sebasticook River is still frozen
