Visitors:
Oh boy it was busy up there today. 40 visitors today! Thank you to all the volunteers up there helping us spot birds, my apologies if I left anyone off the observer's list.
Weather:
Today was HOT! The air was still and the sun was beating down on us for much of the day. Temps maxed out at 71 degrees. Winds were very weak out the west for the first half of the day and out of the south in the second half of the day. Winds only strengthened in the last few hours.
Raptor Observations:
Today was a very good day! Broad-wing numbers are building already. Sharpies continue to increase in number. Another great Kestrel flight today. Highlight of the day was an amazing look at an adult Peregrine Falcon that soared right in front of the summit.
Non-raptor Observations:
Not a very impressive flight of non-raptors today. Non-raptor migrants include: -Northern Flicker: 2 -Common Grackle: 80 -Blackbird Spp.: 125 -Belted Kingfisher: 3 -Tree Swallow: 10 -Double-crested Cormorant:7 A total of 25 species were detected from the summit.
Predictions:
Much cooler tomorrow (high 40's)! Winds out of the east.
