[Maine-birds] Hawk-owl...and then "bang"

OK. As I’m typing this up, the mourning doves suddenly scattered and there was a mild thud against the patio door. I rushed to the door in time to see a large Cooper’s Hawk blink twice, give me a look of derision from inches away, then flew off empty-taloned.

But what I really meant to say is that the Northern Hawk-owl was present at the Lincoln intersection for quite awhile this morning, prominently teed up atop the tallest tree on the left. I had no luck looking for Snowy Owls around the airport in Bangor, but did note an adult Northern Shrike behind Dysarts in Hermon.
