Due to the very buffy lore and the prominant eye ring this thrush has a spectacled appearance. This amount of buff in the lores and the lighter not strong colored spotting on the chest point the ID to Swainsons. Hermit Thrush would lack the buffy lores, however it would have a prominent eye-ring. Also on a Hermit, the spotted on the chest would generally be darker. So, I agree with Fyn as this is a Swainson's.

With thrushes, paying attention to the bird's movements can help id them. As you were watching it, did the bird pump his tail? If so, then what you saw was a hermit thrush.

Hello Everyone,--
I took these photos at Vaughn Woods in Hallowell this morning. I'm not sure what type of thrush it is; I'm torn between a Swainson's and a Hermit. Can anyone help identify and help clarify what features would distinguish the two?
Many thanks,
John
