Hi all,
I covered a lot of ground this week, getting my birding afield in before the Bradbury Mountain Spring Hawkwatch starts on Tuesday. More on that soon. Some of my other observations of note over the past seven days included:
+/- 982 Scaup, still mostly Greater, but more Lesser now among them, Simpson's Point, Brunswick, 3/6.
- 1 pair American Wigeon (FOY), Wharton Point, Brunswick, 3/6.
- 34 Bohemian Waxwings, Foxboro Rd, Lovell, 3/7 (with Jeannette).
- 1 Peregrine Falcon, chasing pigeons over downtown Rockland, 3/8 (with Jeannette and Kristen Lindquist).
- 1 male American Wigeon, Camden Harbor, 3/8 (with Jeannette).
- first large flocks of Red-winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles, over Freeport and Pownal on 3/9.
- 2 drake and 1 hen Barrow's Goldeneye, River Road, Clinton/Benton, 3/11 (with Lena Moser).
- 1 Eastern Meadowlark (FOY), Wyman Road, Benton, 3/11 (with Lena Moser).
- 1 Peregrine Falcon, downtown Bangor, 3/11 (with Lena Moser).
~50 Bohemian Waxwings, Littlefield Gardens, University of Maine at Orono, 3/11 (with Lena Moser).
- Pine Siskins were numerous and widespread in all but the southern coastal plain this week.
And finally, we're planning a series of fun (and free!) events on Monhegan Island this Memoral Day Weekend. Check it out:
