Hi all,
I took a drive today and poked around Kennebec and Somerset Counties. Red-winged Blackbirds were widespread and scattered flocks of Common Grackles were encountered all of the way to North New Portland. Canada Geese were also clearly moving in.
Highlights:
- 9 Ring-necked Ducks (FOY), Messalonskee Lake, Belgrade.
- 4 Wood Ducks (FOY), Oxbow Trail, Waterville.
- 1 Lesser Scaup, 1 Greater Scaup, and 1 Ring-necked Duck, Fort Halifax, Winslow.
- 1 drake BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, Mill Island Park, Fairfield.
- 14 COMMON EIDERS, above the Shawmut Dam, Shawmut.
- 1 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, Long Falls Dam Road.
- abundant Pine Siskins along Long Falls Dam Rd. Unfortunately, it was already mid-afternoon, and the rain caught up with me by the time I arrived, limiting detection of other species.
Good day and a nice change of scenery.
-Derek
