On a late afternoon dog walk today at Saxl Park I came across numerous recent Horned Lark tracks around the shallow packed snow on the northwest side of the park (the Mt. Hope Avenue side, across from the Dorothea Dix Center main parking area). The long back spur was evident on all the tracks, which were an exact match for images found on Google. It appeared that the birds had landed on the trails that walkers had made through the snow, and were foraging adjacent to them. Late in the day and no birds were seen, but pretty cool anyway.
