[Maine-birds] Birds this week

Monday in New Harbor - 8 Common Loon, one that seemed to be showing some summer plumage already, Common Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes, Buffleheads.  Damariscotta Mills - a pair of Wood Ducks hanging out with all the Mallards in the pond by the rr tracks, along with some domestic geese.  Damariscotta - lots of Canadian Geese, 4 Common Goldeneyes, and a pair of Common Mergansers.
Tuesday Colby College - 40 +/- Bohemian waxwings with a few Cedars.  There are lots of fruit trees there so I suspect they will be there for a while.
Wednesday - Horseshoe Pond, Litchfield, 8 pair Hooded Mergansers, 10 or so Common Mergansers flew over.  Belgrade Stream - 1 pair Hooded Mergansers.  Rome on 225, 25 Bohemian Waxwings.
Thursday - Somesville - Mt Desert Island - 1 male Wood duck with lots of Mallards and a few Black Ducks.  2 weeks ago there was a female Wood Duck but she was not there today.  The male was sticking close to 2 particular Black Ducks.  I watched in the nice weather for about 30 min.

A quick question, How do you tell Cackling Geese from Canadian Geese if they are swimming?
